Features to Look for When Buying Formatubes

by Jennifer Jones

If you're pouring concrete and you want it to be a column-type shape, you need to invest in a formatube. These tubes help to make the process as easy and accurate as possible. Whether you're a professional or just a hobbyist, here is what you need to look for when choosing a formatube:

1. Size Specifications

A formatube can come in a range of sizes, and the size you select depends on the size of column you need to make. In most cases, the specifications include two measurements. One is for the height, while the other is for the diameter or circumference. When ordering, make sure that you thoroughly understand whether the measurement in question is for the diameter or circumference so you don't accidentally order the wrong size.

2. Inside Lines

If you order a cardboard formatube, it may have lines on the inside. That's simply where the cardboard components overlap each other. If you're pouring concrete into the ground such as to hold a netball pole, you don't need to worry about the lines. However, if you're making a decorative concrete column, you may want to look for a formatube that has a smooth interior.

3. Biodegradable

Generally, if the formatube is made completely of cardboard, it should be biodegradable, and if the formatube has a plastic layer in its interior, it may not be completely biodegradable. To be on the safe side, double check with the manufacturer's description to ensure that you get the right tube for your needs.

If you are going to use the tube on the ground and you don't want to have to remove it, biodegradability is essential. Similarly, if you're trying to produce as little waste as possible with your product, you may also want to opt for a biodegradable formatube.

4. Labels

In some cases, the companies that sell formatubes also sell mailing tubes, and they can print information on the outside of the tube. If you want your formatubes labeled for any reason, that may be something to consider as well. For example, if you run a landscaping company and you make concrete pillars as part of your landscaping, you may want your company name displayed on the outside of the tubes whilst they are setting. That way, anyone who comes past the work site knows that your company is doing the work.
